Marlys Evonne Giese, age 80, of Whitehall, died on Sunday, July 15, 2018 in the Pigeon Falls Health Care Center in Pigeon Falls after a long journey with Alzheimer's disease.

Marlys was born on February 2, 1938 in Whitehall to Milo and Helen (Christianson)Torud.

Marlys was baptized, confirmed, married and will have her funeral service in Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Whitehall. Marlys graduated from the Whitehall High School in 1956. She married Kenneth Giese on June 8, 1957 in Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Whitehall. Together they farmed in Fitch Coulee until 1965 when they purchased their farm south of Whitehall. They moved into Whitehall in 1985. Marlys also worked in the dietary department at the Tri-County Memorial Hospital for seventeen years prior to her retirement.

Marlys was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church and was active in its various organizations. She also taught Sunday School for many years. Marlys was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, a 4H leader and was an accomplished seamstress.

Marlys is survived by her husband, Kenneth; three sons, Kevin (Michelle) Giese of Elk Mound, Ken Giese and Gary (Nancy) Giese both of Whitehall; seven grandchildren, Harper (John) Rooney, Madison Giese, Kyle (Kayla Falk) Spagnoletti, Jenna (fiancé, Mike Kendzierski) Spagnoletti, Brady (friend, Leah Granlund) Giese, Samantha (friend, Alex Eid) Giese and Kasey Giese; two brothers, Ardell (Pat) Torud of Holmen and Michael (Rachel) Torud of Altoona; brother-in law and sister-in-law, Lloyd and Christine Giese of Whitehall and a sister-in-law, Edith Giese of Rice Lake; several nieces and nephews.

Marlys was preceded in death by her parents, her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lyman and Esther Giese and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, David and Judy Giese.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 20, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Whitehall with Pastor David Christianson officiating. Burial will be in the Pigeon Creek Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in Pigeon Falls.

Visitation will be Thursday, July 19, 2018 from 6-8:30 p.m. in the Jack Funeral Home in Whitehall and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.

Memorials may be designated to the Alzheimer's Association or the Freedom Honor Flight.
