Marvin Allen Skaugh, age 91, of rural Blair, passed away peacefully with his wife at his side in the Gundersen Tri-County Care Center in Whitehall on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 where he had resided for over three years.

Marvin was born in Whitehall on August 25, 1930 to Ingeman and Gladys (Johnson) Skaugh of Vosse Coulee, rural Blair.  He attended country school at Pleasant View in Vosse Coulee and went on to graduate from the Blair High School in 1948.  Marvin farmed with his parents until entering the United States Army in 1954.  After basic training at Fort Leonard, MO and Fort Bliss, TX, he was deployed to an Army base in Karlsruhe, Germany where he served until his discharge in October of 1956.

Marvin had several jobs in the years following, including continuing assisting his parents on the farm, working for the Milwaukee Road and several years at Central Yard Lumber Company in Blair.  He then spent nearly 26 years with the Trempealeau County Highway Department from which he retired from in May of 1992.  After retirement, Marvin did volunteer driving for the Grand View Care Center in Blair.

Marvin was an active and dedicated lifelong member of the Trempealeau Valley Lutheran Church in rural Taylor, from which he was baptized, confirmed and married.  He served on the church council, cemetery board and he and his wife were also church custodians for several years.  Marvin was also a member of the Ettrick Veterans of Foreign Wars Post.

Marvin married Donna Flaaten Bettin on his 49 ^th birthday in 1979 and they shared 42 years together.  They enjoyed traveling, including trips to Norway, fishing trips to Canada and sightseeing to various destinations in the United States.  Caring for a large yard also kept them busy.

Marvin is survived by his wife, Donna; twin sisters, Beverly (Eldon) Quarne and Belinda (Jerome) Anderson both of Blair; several nieces and nephews and two sisters-in-law, Florence Shelley and Joann Johnson.

In addition to his parents, Marvin was preceded in death by his in-laws, Edward and Levea Flaaten.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 11, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. in the Trempealeau Valley Lutheran Church with burial in the church cemetery both in rural Taylor.  Pastor Natalie Leske will officiate.

Military graveside services will be conducted by the Knudtson-Mattison American Legion Post #231.

Visitation will be Sunday, October 10, 2021 from 1-3 p.m. in the Jack Funeral Home in Blair and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
