Mary Alice (Slattery) Boehm, age 89, of Altoona, formerly of Whitehall, joined her savior Jesus Christ in heaven on February 9, 2016. At the time of her death, Alice was surrounded by family members who had gathered to be with her at Grace Edgewood Lutheran Home in Altoona.

Alice was born December 26, 1926 in O'Neill, NE to Sarah Agnes (McDermott) and Edward James Slattery. The family relocated to Winter, WI where Alice, the youngest of four siblings, attended a one-room school. As a young girl, Alice often rode her pony to school. She loved animals and had many pets at home including her pony, a goat, cats and dogs.

After high school, Alice worked at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire before moving to La Crosse, where she was a telephone operator. While living in La Crosse, Alice's brother James introduced her to his best friend, Louis Boehm. Alice and Louis were married April 22, 1950 in LaCrosse. Louis and Alice were married 49 years until Louie preceded her in death on September 26, 1999.

Alice and Louis established their family in Whitehall, where Alice was a homemaker, mother and worked with her husband in their businesses, including a hardware store, plumbing business and a mobile home park. Alice's mother had been a cook at a cattle ranch in Wyoming and she taught her daughter well. Alice herself was an excellent cook and baker, and later in life, she held part-time jobs as a cook at a restaurant and at a day-care center.

Louie and Alice shared a love of animals and received tremendous joy from their pets. They also loved camping and spent many enjoyable weekends with family traveling in their camper or motorhome to county parks and fishing lakes around Wisconsin. Alice was an active member of the Altar Society and Ladies Bible Studies Group at St. John the Apostle's Catholic Church and participated in many church activities and community events. One of the events, which she and her friends did for many years, was to dress up as clowns in the annual Beef & Dairy Days parade.

In her later years, Alice moved to the Eau Claire area to live with her daughter Dorothy and family, and then moved to assisted living. She enjoyed visiting with family and friends, attending Bible study and taking part in family and community outings. She enjoyed sharing photos of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and talking about their activities.

Alice is survived by her children, John (Carol), Sally (Scott), Mary (Tom), Pat (Laurie), and Dorothy (Michael); her grandchildren, Jenny (Randy), Holly, Michael, Adam (Jessica), Stephanie (Tony), Travis (Gwen), Ryan, Lindsey, Sarah, Elsa, Nate and Matt; her great-grandchildren, Ryan, Elyse, Julia, Connor, Lainey, Zoey and Zach; her sisters-in-law, Barbara and Marguerite; niece, Patti; nephews, Mark and Greg; great-niece, Renee and many more beloved cousins and friends.

In addition to her husband and parents, Alice was preceded in death by four infant brothers and sisters, four infant grandchildren, her sister, Jane (Jenny) Slattery; two brothers, Patrick and James Slattery; her mother-in-law, Dorothy and her father-in-law Dr. Walter Boehm; two sisters-in-law, Patricia Schindler and Elvena Slattery; two brothers-in-law, Allen Schindler and James (Jim) Feldmeier; a niece, Jo Slattery and a son, Michael Walter Boehm.

The family would like to thank the staff at Grace Edgewood and MCHS Hospice for the warmth and kindness extended to Alice and her family. Special thanks also to Father John Schultz for his pastoral care to bless Mom in her final hours on Earth and commend her to the care of her heavenly Father.

Memorials may be designated to the Whitehall Fire Department, the Trempealeau County Humane Society or the Feed My People Food Banks serving Eau Claire and Trempealeau Counties.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. in Saint John's Catholic Church with Father Nathan and Father John A. Schultz officiating. Burial will be in the Lincoln Cemetery in Whitehall at a later date.

Visitation will be Friday, February 12, 2016 from 4-7 p.m. in the Jack Funeral Home in Whitehall and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
