Mavis Elaine Hanson, age 93, of Pigeon Falls, was gathered to her reward on Thursday, June 1, 2017 in the Pigeon Falls Health Care Center in Pigeon Falls.

Mavis was born on her grandparents' farm in Pigeon Falls on March 8, 1924 to Owen and Minnie (Olson) Larson. She lived on the Larson farm and went to the Thorson (Prairie) School through eighth grade and graduated from the Whitehall Memorial High School.

Mavis married Robert O. Hanson on April 24, 1942. They lived in Pigeon Falls for most of their married life with the exception of brief stays in Faribault, MN and Madison. The latter was while Bob was still in the United States Air Force.

Mavis was employed as a telephone switchboard operator in Pigeon Falls until the phones converted to dial telephones. She then worked in the dietary department at the hospital in Whitehall for fifteen years prior to her retirement.

Mavis was active in Ladies' Aid, church council, altar guild and the American Legion Auxiliary. She also taught Saturday School and she and her family were custodians of the lower church for about twenty years.

Mavis enjoyed square dancing, bike riding and collecting antiques. She also travelled extensively throughout the United States and Canada, including nine trips to Branson, MO.

Mavis is survived by a son, Rolf (Betsy) Hanson of Onalaska; a daughter, Mary ( Ron) Dean of Chippewa Falls; three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, a great-great-granddaughter on the way and two sisters, Joyce (Tom) Berg of Pigeon Falls and Delores (Richard) Buege of Mankato, MN.

In addition to her parents and husband, Robert, who died on March 23, 2015, Mavis was preceded in death by a son, Marko; a daughter-in-law, Linda (Johnson) Hanson and a brother, Mike Larson.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in Peace Lutheran of Pigeon Falls with burial in the Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery both in Pigeon Falls. Pastor Mary Ann Bowman will officiate.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service.

Memorials in Mavis's honor may be designated to Peace Lutheran of Pigeon Falls, the Citizens' Advisory Board of the Pigeon Falls Health Care Center, which makes purchases to enhance the lives of the residents, or to the charity of your choice.
