Maynard Frederic Guse, age 81, of Whitehall, died on Friday, January 30, 2015 in the Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire.

Maynard was born on August 23, 1933 in Germany Valley, rural Whitehall, to Fred Paul and Millie Jeanette (Christianson) Guse. He grew up on the farm in rural Whitehall, attended the Pike School in German Valley and graduated from the Whitehall High School in 1951. Maynard served as a Sergeant in the United States 8th. Army working as a radio operator along the Korean Demilitarized Zone from 1955-1957 coming home with the unit colors when they moved back to United States after Korea.

Maynard was employed as a truck driver at the Pleasantville Mill and later with the Trempealeau County Highway Department for 37 years prior to his retirement in 1998. Maynard enjoyed rifle deer hunting and was involved in the Trempealeau County Fair livestock shows for many years and was a life member of the Trempealeau County Agriculture Society. He was honored by the Junior Fair Auction Committee in 1994 for his dedicated service and commitment to youth.

Maynard was a recovering alcoholic and a very active member of the Trempealeau County AA group. His number was even listed as the contact number for years. Maynard was sober for 30 years and spent his time after retirement trying to help others maintain their sobriety. Maynard even considered going back to school to become a counselor for others.

Maynard is survived by three children, Barbara Guse of Galesville, Bradley (Bonnie) Guse of Arpin and Berkley (Laura) Guse of Middleton; five grandchildren, Darby, Britta, Brady, Calvin and Jonah; a brother, Roger (Carol) Guse of rural Whitehall and a sister-in-law, Alice Guse of Ham Lake, MN.

In addition to his parents, Maynard was preceded in death by a daughter, Bethany and a brother, Duane.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 6, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Whitehall with Pastor Yvonne Marshall officiating. Burial will be in the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in rural Whitehall.

Visitation will be Thursday, February 5, 2015 from 4-7 p.m. in the Jack Funeral Home in Whitehall and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
