Michael "Mike" Allen Engen, age 56, of rural Whitehall passed away peacefully on Friday, December 5, 2025 surrounded by loved ones.

Michael was born on May 28, 1969 in Black River Falls to Andrew and Sharon (Thompson) Engen.

Michael worked along side his Dad at Engen Construction until 2011. He then changed careers to go on the road to work for Northern Clearing until health issues and covid forced him to retire.

He was well known for his humor and larger than life personality and was truly a local legend. From an early age Michael had a love of deer hunting.   It was more than just deer hunting, it was managing the woods, food plots, shed hunting, shining, or just J riding looking for deer.  Michael enjoyed the camaraderie of deer camp and brought entertainment with his one liners and play on words.  We always knew what was happening in the woods during hunting season with his snaps and texts. Following the deer throughout the season was one of his greatest pastimes, and he even gave them names, most famously "El Guapo" which now hangs in the cabin on his beloved hunting land.

Michael had many friends throughout his life but one of his closest friends was Dale Lyngen and they got to be known as "EngenLyngen".  Lots of shenanigans were had!

Michael fought with remarkable strength and determination, holding on as long as he could. His greatest wish was to see his youngest son Bennet graduate from high school and wanting to spend more time with Alli and Bradey which fueled his strength through his hardest days.

A special thank you goes to his sister Linette, who cared for him with unwavering love and selflessness over the past several years.

Michael was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Clifford and Alice Engen and maternal grandparents, Morris and Alydia Thompson; his brother, Brad Engen and a nephew, Joshua Sendelbach.

Michael is survived by his children, Allison Engen, Bradey (George) Engen and Bennet Engen; grandchildren, Ila, Lena, Nora and Benjamin; his parents, Andrew and Sharon Engen; sisters, Linette (Bruce) Ford and Audra (Bob) Sendelbach and many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

He will be deeply missed by his family and friends and will never be forgotten.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 11, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. in Our Saviour's Lutheran Church with burial in the Lincoln Cemetery both in Whitehall.  Scott W. Brown will officiate.

Visitation will be Wednesday, December 10, 2025 from 4-6 p.m. in the Jack Funeral Home in Whitehall and also one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
