Olin Charles Fimreite passed into eternity to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on March 31, 2026, at the age of 92.

He was born on August 25, 1933, to Theodore and Olinda (Schultz) Fimreite on the family farm a mile north of Eleva, Wisconsin. Olin attended Big Creek School through the 8th grade and then Eleva High School for his first three years, where he was a member of the Eleva Elevators basketball and baseball teams. He was part of the first graduating class of Eleva-Strum High School, the first consolidated school in Wisconsin, and was a standout athlete for the Cardinals in both basketball and baseball. He was also a member of the Future Farmers of America.

After high school, Olin remained on the family farm for two years before joining the U.S. Army. A Korean War veteran, he served as a "map maker" and took great joy in his time stationed in Japan. Upon returning home, he used the GI Bill to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Education from the University of Wisconsin–River Falls. While there, he met Janice Marie Kaneen, whom he married on December 27, 1959.

Olin briefly taught at Plum City High School before realizing education was not his calling. He then accepted a position with the USDA Soil Conservation Service in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, where he discovered his true professional passion, a love for the land. After one year, he moved to Alma, Wisconsin, to work with the Buffalo County SCS. In 1967, he accepted a promotion to Whitehall, Wisconsin, where he led the Trempealeau County SCS until his retirement in 1994.

Never one to sit still; Olin remained active throughout his life. He and Janice established Fimreite's Sunset Gardens greenhouse, sharing their love of plants and soil with the community. He was an active member of the Lions Club and participated in several mission trips to Nicaragua. He was also a member of the Whitehall-Pigeon Falls Rod and Gun Club.

Olin served nearly 25 years on the Trempealeau County Board, where he was known as a fair and honorable leader who advocated for fiscally responsible solutions. He was instrumental in establishing the Trempealeau County Recovery Court to support individuals struggling with substance abuse. He also served on the Trempealeau County Communications Board from its inception for 40 years and was a founding member of the Trempealeau County Tourism Board.

Olin designed and led as many as 60 bus tours per year, showcasing the beauty of Trempealeau County to visitors. He also created the Trempealeau County bicycle trail, with markers still visible today. These trails were featured in the national publication, Bicycle magazine. He brought his love of the area to life through the 112 episodes on the television program "Discover Trempealeau County with Olin Fimreite."

Olin treasured every visit from those who stopped by and would gladly set aside his work to share a cup of coffee or an ice cream bar with a friend. Whether someone was facing hardship or a cause stirred his heart, he gave generously of both his time and resources. Serving others was not just something he did, it was simply who he was.

An avid photographer, Olin won first place in the 1968 National Soil Conservation Society photography contest. He was also a devoted sports fan who rarely missed his sons' games, missing only two games over a ten-year period when he had at least one son playing on the Whitehall Norse basketball team. Olin was loved throughout the Sunset neighborhood, always volunteering to hit fly balls for games of "500" or serving as an official for our ball games. He was affectionately known by the neighborhood boys as "The Ole Timer".

Olin is survived by his wife, Janice; his four sons, Robert (Angie), Duane (Kathy), Gordon (Arlene), and Jeffrey (Anne); his grandchildren, Luke (Abigail), Tyler, Zachary, Lydia (Kevin), and Tessa; his great-granddaughters, Aurora and Gwen; his sister, Evelyn (Harland) Wegner; and sister-in-law Audrey (Henry). Olin was preceded in death by his father Theodore, mother Olinda, and three younger brothers, Henry, Clifford and Stanley and sister-in-law Joanne (Clifford).

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 4, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. in Our Saviour's Lutheran Church with burial in the Lincoln Cemetery both in Whitehall.  Mr. Scott W. Brown –SAM will officiate.  Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Hutchins-Stendahl American Legion Post #191.

Visitation will be Friday, April 3, 2026 from 4-7 p.m. in the Jack Funeral Home in Whitehall and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
