It is with a sad heart that I share the passing of my father, Randall John Obieglo, age 65. He passed away Thursday, January 29, 2026, at Emplify Health in Whitehall, with family in attendance.

Born on May 5, 1960, in Durand, Wisconsin, he was known to others as: "OB" during high school, "RJ" and "Prune" to family, Randy and "Beavis" to close friends, and Gunny at work. The late son of Anton and Angeline (Lyga) Obieglo, Randy proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps for 21 years. Entering the service in San Diego, California, he completed numerous rotational deployments and Med floats while stationed primarily out of Jacksonville, North Carolina. Upon retirement, he moved to St. Paul, Minnesota, where he spent several years before ultimately settling back into the comfort of his hometown of Blair, Wisconsin.

Throughout his life, Randy enjoyed an abundance of hobbies and activities, but none more than grilling, fishing, playing cards, giving treats to the many dogs that visited (especially Buddy and Ms. Kitty), watching sports, and "putzing." He often called himself the "GrillMaster," though, to be frank, he was the only one who said it. He grilled his steaks so long they were practically jerky and refused to eat them any other way. Still, that never stopped friends from showing up to his get-togethers—thankfully, he was much better at fishing, having entered and won several tournaments in and around North Carolina.

Randy rarely turned down the chance to play cards and break out his infamous can of "whoop butt," though in later years he rarely found success—or the need for his can—while playing cards with his sister, Kathy. When he wasn't doing these things or meticulously tending to his yard, Randy could usually be found with a giant bag of sunflower seeds and a cold rum mixed with those awful Pepsis, watching a sporting event on TV—his favorites, of course, being the Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Brewers.

Most importantly—and what could never be properly conveyed in such a short tribute—is the sheer magnitude of the impact my father had on those who had the privilege of knowing him in this world. He was a man who felt with the entirety of his heart and would willingly go without if it meant easing even the slightest discomfort of those he cared about. He passionately fought against perceived injustices, gambled with abandon, was loyal to a fault, and expressed a stoic front that was marked by a hint of goofiness—and pride. Proud of his family, proud of his community, proud of his country. He wasn't oblivious to the imperfections each held, but he was proud of what they represented.

Randy is survived by his former wife, Vida Obieglo of Carolina Beach, NC, and their only child, Nicole (Charles) Obieglo-Best of Leland, NC; six sisters, Bonnie (Derald) Tuschl of Colfax, Rose (Roger) Obieglo of Waterford, Rita (Tony) Halvorson of Taylor, Kathy Berg of Blair, Ruth (Rick) Curtis of St. Louis, Missouri, and Dorothy (Tom) Rutherford of St. Paul, Minnesota; two brothers, Tony Obieglo Jr. of Milwaukee and Rick (Rhonda) Obieglo of Blair; and innumerable nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Randy was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, John Berg and his nephew, Chad Lien.
