Rex Maurice Elvaker, age 57, of rural Taylor, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, October 31, 2017 in the Mayo Clinic Health System in LaCrosse after a courageous battle with cancer.

Rex was born on February 10, 1960 in Wichita, KS to Robert and Beverly (Thomas) Elvaker. The family moved to Taylor in 1969. Rex graduated from the Taylor High School in 1979. Rex married Suzanne Menk on September 12, 1998 in Whitehall. They continued to reside in Taylor with their blessed son, Bradley.

Regardless of his place of employment, Rex always believed in hard work and loyalty. Rex found most of his time, doing what he loved, farming. He was grateful with the relationships and work experiences he had with some of his later places of employment, such as Lunda Construction and most recently, Taylor Frac.

In Rex's younger years, he enjoyed boxing and especially farming. Rex milked his first cow when he was nine years old. In his later years, Rex enjoyed farming, hunting and spending time with his loved ones. Rex always had a true admiration for the outdoors, so people knew exactly where to find him on the weekends.

Rex was a loving husband and father. His commitment to these roles and his strength continued in his fight against cancer. Rex's family would like to remember him not as someone who lost their battle to cancer, but instead won, by showing how life is filled with love, friendship and cherished memories.

Rex is survived by his wife, Sue; a son, Bradley of LaCrosse; his mother, Beverly of Taylor; five brothers, Jay, Rob (Theresa) and Brett (Becky) all of Taylor, Andrew (Diane) of Elk City, OK and Matt (Kristin) of Taylor; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends and his beloved dog, Milo.

Rex was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Brad.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the Taylor Lutheran Church in Taylor with Pastors Benjamin and Mara Ahles Iverson officiating. Burial will be in the Upper Beaver Creek Lutheran Cemetery in rural Taylor.

Visitation will be Friday, November 3, 2017 from 4-7 p.m. in the Taylor Lutheran Church in Taylor and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

The Jack Funeral Home in Blair is assisting the family with arrangements.
