Roger Otto Rumstick, age 79 of rural Osseo, died on Thursday, October 18, 2018

at home.

Roger was born on April 3, 1939 in Winona, MN to Otto and Alice (Berge)

Rumstick. Roger graduated from Winona Senior High School in 1957.

After graduating from high school, Roger enlisted in the United States Army

serving with the infantry stationed in Heilbronn, Germany.

After his honorable discharge from the service, Roger worked construction, at

Sam's Garage, and at Fiberite. Roger decided to attend Winona State University

in 1964, graduating in 1967. He continued his education here, earning a master's

equivalency in the mid 70's.

Roger's first teaching job was in Blair, where he taught for three years. He

married Stephanie Beaty on November 9, 1968 at Zion Lutheran Church, Blair,

WI. After Roger accepted a teaching position at St. Charles Public Schools, he

and Stephanie moved to Minnesota City where he and his father had built them

their first home. They later moved to Rollingstone, MN where they built their

second home and raised their 3 children, living there for thirty years. In 1999,

after Roger's retirement from 32 years of teaching, he worked part time at MPE in

Winona. Roger and Stephanie moved to rural Osseo in the early 2000's to fulfill

their dream of living at their farm where their son Eric had built them a new

home.

Roger was a member of the Elk Creek Lutheran Church in rural Osseo and a

member of the Pleasantville Lions Club, serving the organization as secretary.

He was also a member of the American Legion.

Roger enjoyed duck hunting, deer hunting, golfing and ice fishing. He especially

enjoyed following his grandchildren's activities and sporting events. He was

very proud of his four grandchildren and loved sharing his slice of the country

life with them in family traditions they will continue to honor like hunting, hiking,

and exploring the beautiful land he was so grateful to be able to share with them.

Roger is survived by his wife, Stephanie; two daughters, Jelaine (Joel)

Merchlewitz and Kari Weidemann both of Rushford, MN; four grandchildren,

Lindsey and Jake Merchlewitz and Ryan and Kyle Weidemann; two sisters, Judy

Ladewig of Winona, MN and Mary (John) Nichols of Middletown, OH. He is also

survived by many nieces, nephews and lifelong friends.

In addition to his parents, Roger was preceded in death by son, Eric and a

nephew, Chris Ladewig.

Memorial services will be held on Friday, October 26, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Elk

Creek Lutheran Church with burial in the church cemetery in rural Osseo. Pastor

Valerian Ahles will officiate. Military graveside services will be conducted by the

American Legion Carl Nelson Post #324.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service.

The Jack Funeral Home in Whitehall is assisting the family with arrangements.
