Selma Luella Estenson, age 99, of Whitehall, died on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 in the Gundersen Tri-County Care Center in Whitehall.

Selma was born in the East Branch of Hale, Trempealeau County, WI on June 16, 1917 to John and Inga (Bakken) Skoyen. She was baptized and confirmed in the Pigeon Falls Lutheran Church.

Selma attended the Huskelhus Country School and the Whitehall High School. She married Earl Estenson on October 12, 1940 in Pigeon Falls. Selma worked at the City Café in Whitehall and went through several bosses as the restaurant changed hands.

Selma was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Whitehall and was active in quilting and sewed many quilt tops at home. She also belonged to the Tri-County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and had over 2000 hours of volunteer work in the gift shop.

Selma enjoyed traveling with her friends, gardening, canning and baking cookies making lefse for Christmas. She especially enjoyed the activitites at the Gundersen Tri-County Care Center.

Selma is survived by three children, Linda (Larry) Tomter, David (Janet) Estenson and Sharon (Randy) Fuerst all of Eau Claire; a daughter-in-law, Diane Estenson of Whitehall; nine grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Elvina Swenson of Mondovi and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Selma was preceded in death by her husband, Earl, who died on April 3, 1981; a son, Jerome "Jerry" Estenson; four brothers, Melvin, Helmer, Joseph and William Skoyen and four sisters, Laura Johnson, Myrtle Stuve, Olga Johnson and Emelia Hanson.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 21, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in Our Saviour's Lutheran Church with burial in the Lincoln Cemetery both in Whitehall. Pastor Dorothy Sandahl will officiate.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service.

Selma's family would like to give special thanks to the staff at the Gundersen Tri-County Care Center for all the loving care they gave to Selma.
