Sidney Arnold Borreson, age 90, of Whitehall, died on Saturday, August 31, 2013 in the Pigeon Falls Health Care Center in Pigeon Falls.

Sidney was born on July 19, 1923, the tenth child to Emil and Gina (Estenson) Borreson in his rural Fitch Coulee, WI home. He married Irene Stensby on September 30, 1950 in Whitehall. Born to them were two daughters, Joyce (Jack) Cotton of Verona and Judith (Douglas) Caruso of Middleton and a son, Dale (Jill) Borreson of Black River Falls. His grandchildren are Matthew (Amy) Cotton of Savage, MN, Mark (Jenny) Cotton of Lake Elmo, MN, Anthony (Sara) Caruso of Madison, Emily Caruso of Madison, Letece (fiancé, Brandon Scott) of Fond du Lac and Megan Borreson of Black River Falls; four great-grandchildren, Ryah, Grayson, Grant and Alyssa Cotton.

Sidney was baptized and confirmed in the Pigeon Creek Evangelical Lutheran Church in Pigeon Falls. He graduated from the Whitehall High School at the age of 16.
Sidney worked at a variety of jobs, machinist for Trane Co. in LaCrosse, farming, home heating for WBI Farmers Union Co-op for over 22 years, Sid's Sales and Service and Dale's Refrigeration, Heating and Appliance in Black River Falls. Sid and his wife, Irene, owned and operated the Coral City Store in Coral City for 13 years. He enjoyed his customers and their cups of coffee any time of day or night.

Sidney enjoyed his 90th birthday party July 19th in the Pigeon Falls Health Care Center.

Sidney's favorite pastimes were hunting deer, turkeys and fishing for bass with his son, Dale. Many trophies hung on Sid's basement wall. He enjoyed playing baseball in his earlier years and later horseshoes. In retirement, he helped Irene cut quilt pieces for family and made over a thousand quilt tops for charity. He even hand quilted some. Sid held offices on the church council at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, the Whitehall-Pigeon Rod and Gun Club, Farmer's Union and the Tri-County Citizen's Advisory Committee.

Sidney was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Dale; two sisters and their spouses, Mabel (Carl) Okerwall and Clara (Ernest) Cook; seven brothers and their spouses, Edwin (Marcelette), Gilbert (Estelle), Bennie, Edger (Edna), Ednar (Stella), Garvin (Cora) and Odell (Gladys "Nan").

Memorial services will be held on Friday, September 6, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in Our Saviour's Lutheran Church with burial in the Lincoln Cemetery both in Whitehall. Pastor Denise Anderson will officiate.

Visitation will be Thursday, September 5, 2013 from 4-7 p.m. in the Jack Funeral Home in Whitehall and also one hour prior to the services at the church on Friday.
