Stanley Michael Marthaler, age 80, of Blair, passed away on Friday, October 26, 2018 in his home.

Stanley was born to Walter and Elizabeth (Kitttl) Marthaler on August 28, 1938 in Goodrich, WI. He graduated from the Athens, WI High School in 1956. After graduation, Stanley enlisted in the United States Marine Corps.

On April 8, 1961, Stanley married Helen Boe and they were blessed with four children. Stanley was employed as a construction worker, carpenter, part time police officer and water and sewer operator for the city of Blair until 1968. He worked in maintenance for Western Dairies, later known as Associated Milk Producers Inc. for 33 years, retiring in 2001.

Stanley was a member of the Blair City Council for many years and served as mayor from 1993 to 1999. During that time, he had the honor of meeting the mayor from Blair's Sister City of Norway. He was a member of the Blair-Preston Volunteer Fire Department from 1963 to 1993, serving as Fire Chief for part of that time. Stanley was also a member of the Blair Lutheran Church.

Stanley was active in the Blair Sportsmen's Club, was a handy fix-it man and enjoyed gardening and hunting. His biggest passion was fishing, therefore receiving his Captain's License in 1995 and did Charter Fishing on Lake Superior until 2008.

Stanley is survived by his wife of almost 58 years, Helen; their children, Sheldon (Lori) Marthaler, Helaine (John) Bradley, Carolyn (Franklin) Scott and Theron (Traci) Marthaler; grandchildren, Desirea (Simon Connor) Marthaler, Nicholas (Lindsey) Bradley, Briar (fiancee`, Kara Hessler) Bradley, Tyler (Shiloh Sobotta) Marthaler and Tiana (friend, Hans Harings) Marthaler; great-grandchildren, Ashton, Avery, Keaton, Jocelyn and Travis; siblings, Marshall (Billie) Marthaler, LeAnna Farr, Sherrie (Stanley) Podgorski, Ralph (Lynn) Marthaler and Neil (Sandy) Marthaler; special family members, Belah (Deb) Boe, Rachel Boe, Jacob (Amy) Boe and their son, Levi; many nieces and nephews.

Stanley was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial services will be held on Friday, November 2, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. in Blair Lutheran Church West with burial in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery both in Blair. Pastor Kary Jonas will officiate. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Knudtson-Mattison American Legion Post #231.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 1, 2018 from 4-7 p.m. in the Jack Funeral Home in Blair and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.

Stanley's family would like to give special thanks to the Dialysis Center staff and to their extended family at the Dialysis Center in Onalaska.
