Susan Jean Lyga, age 60, of Pigeon Falls, left this life for her next adventure on Tuesday, December 18, 2018 following her 22-month long fight with pancreatic cancer.

Susan  was born in Fort Atkinson, WI on June 28, 1958 to Howard and Barbara (Holstad) Olson but ultimately lived her entire life in Pigeon Falls.  She graduated from the Whitehall High School and went on to graduate from the City College of Cosmetology in Eau Claire.  Susan married her high school sweetheart, Mike Lyga, on August 27, 1977 in Pigeon Falls.  Sue was a familiar face at the Pigeon Falls State Bank for 18 years before joining her husband to manage their business, Falls Meat Service, until their retirement in 2017.

Susan's life was defined by her devotion to her role as the wife of Mike, the mother of Stacy and Betsy and the grandmother of Lucy.  In addition to her own family, she loved entertaining others and made for a whimsical host with her cooking and baking skills.  She explored and generously shared her creative side while sewing and quilting.  Susan was passionate about her Christian faith. She recently participated in Peace Lutheran's first mission trip to Puerto Rico which enabled her to grow in her faith and parish relationships while immersed in an impoverished land.  Her best and most valued times were those spent traveling with her husband and kids.  Susan's  wish for everyone reading  this is to allow the travel bug in and to experience the world with open eyes and a vulnerable heart.

Sue wanted to extend a heart-felt thank you to the staff at Gundersen Health System  and Black River Memorial Hospice who were incredibly compassionate throughout her journey.  Additionally, she wanted her community to know that the support and love that she felt was unparalleled.

Sue is survived by her devoted husband of 41 years, Mike; two daughters,  Stacy Brueggen and Betsy (Ryan) Peterson; a granddaughter,  Lucy Peterson; her parents,  Howard and Barbara Olson; two brothers, Tom (Jan) Olson and Randy (Tracey) Olson; her mother-in-law,  Helen Lyga; brothers-in-law, Steve (Tammy) Lyga, Tim (Bonnie) Lyga and Brian (Dana) Lyga; several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.  Susan was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Aloizie Lyga and her grandparents.

Memorial  services will be held on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in Peace Lutheran  of Pigeon Falls.  Pastor Mary Ann Bowman will officiate.  Burial will be in the Pigeon Creek Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in Pigeon Falls.

Visitation will be Friday, December 21, 2018 from 4-7p.m. in Peace Lutheran of Pigeon Falls and also one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
