Theodora Marie Foss, age 89, of Whitehall, died on Sunday, December 6, 2015 in the Pigeon Falls Health Care Center in Pigeon Falls.

Theodora was born on January 12, 1926 on the Maultzow farm north of
Strum to Theodore and Myrtle (Jacobson) Johnson. She was baptized in March of 1926 in the Chimney Rock Lutheran Church and confirmed on August 18, 1940 in Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Whitehall.

While in high school, Theodora sold tickets for the Pix Theatre for four years and also worked in the rationing board at the courthouse. Theodora graduated from the Whitehall High School in 1944. After graduation, she continued working at the courthouse taking shorthand, doing bookkeeping, typing and dictation and eventually served as the Trempealeau County Price Clerk. In 1947, Theodora worked at the Snack Shop and later bought a restaurant and beer bar.

Theodora married Norman Ekern on April 25, 1949 in Decorah, IA. He preceded her in death on September 10, 1955. She later married Duane Foss on May 1, 1957 in Dubuque, IA. Together they worked three different service stations in Whitehall and in 1968 they bought the Mobile Station which they operated until their retirement in 2009. Duane preceded Theodora in death on December 2, 2013.

Theodora enjoyed dancing, traveling, playing Bingo, telling jokes, taking care her cat, Ole and spending time with family. She was known as the shop foreman and enjoyed visiting and sharing stories with all the customers. Theodora was thrilled when a family from Norway stopped in and had continued to come every year to visit.

Theodora is survived by a son, Frederick (Debra) Ekern of Onalaska; a daughter, Debra (Ron) Larson of York; three grandchildren, Stephanie (Steven) Buck of New Berlin, Erica (Nathan) Rucker of Appleton and Brian Larson of Ixonia; four great-grandchildren, Ian and Colin Buck and Preslie and Asher Rucker.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. in Our Saviour's Lutheran Church with burial in the Lincoln Cemetery both in Whitehall. Pastor Yvonne Marshall will officiate.

Visitation will be Tuesday, December 15, 2015 from 4-6 p.m. in the Jack Funeral Home in Whitehall and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
