Thomas Edward Nygard, age 68, of Whitehall, died on Friday, July 28, 2023 in the Tomah VA Medical Center in Tomah.

Tom was born on August 17, 1954 in Seattle, WA to Edward and Beatrice (Solberg) Nygard.

Tom served in the United States Army from 1972 to 1974, where he spent time stationed in Germany.  After his military service, he worked on fishing vessels going from Seattle to Alaska. He also spent many years working for Seattle Glass Co.

Tom was always a mechanic at heart. He loved fixing and rebuilding old cars. He was always working on something, whether it be his own car or a friend's.

Tom loved spending time with his family, including his beloved dog, Toby. He was most often seen walking around town with his dog, while he smiled and waved at people passing by.

Tom is survived by his son, Tim Nygard of Mondovi; a daughter, Susan "Susie" Stevens of Whitehall and a step-son, Eric "EJ" Johnson of Mondovi. He also leaves behind four grandsons, Tim Stevens, Charles "Sonny" Nygard, Riley Nygard and Jason Hinrichs along with a great-granddaughter, Athena.

In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his sister, Judy Nygard and a brother, Cory Nygard.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 5, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. in the Jack Funeral Home in Whitehall with Pastor Rob Buhl officiating.  Military rites will be conducted by the Hutchins-Stendahl American Legion Post #191.
