Verna Marian Sletteland, age 91, of Black River Falls, died on Friday, August 7, 2015 in the Family Heritage Care Center in Black River Falls.

Verna was born April 13, 1924 in Springfield township, Jackson County, WI to Albert and Christine (Arneson) Kolve. She married Chester O. Sletteland on November 2, 1943 in the Trempealeau Valley Lutheran Church in rural Taylor.

Verna and Chester farmed in the town of Pigeon and Verna also worked in housekeeping in the Golden Age Home in Whitehall and the Pine View Nursing Home in Black River Falls.

Verna loved her grandchildren and loved to bake, especially chocolate chip cookies and lefse.

Verna is survived by four children, Loretta Sletteland of Eau Claire, Mark (Virginia) Sletteland of Las Vegas, NV, Ione (Cal) Olson of Black River Falls and Sara (Bill) McNulty of Black River Falls; eleven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Chester, who died on April 20, 2006, Verna was preceded in death by a daughter, Joan Herbert; two brothers, Amos and Archie Kolve and a sister, Ida Christianson.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in Peace Lutheran of Pigeon Falls with burial in the Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery both in Pigeon Falls. Pastor Roger Benrud will officiate.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

The Jack Funeral Home in Whitehall is assisting the family with arrangements.
