Viola Janette Mahlum, age 91, of rural Ettrick, WI died on Friday, March 15, 2013 in her home.

Viola was born on June 23, 1921 in rural Blair to Edward and Mina (Fredrickson) Stenberg. She married Gerald O. Mahlum on May 15, 1948 in rural Blair. Gerald preceded Viola in death on September 19, 2006.

Viola attended the Chapultapec elementary grade school in rural Blair. Viola and Gerald farmed in rural Ettrick for many years. Viola was a member of the French Creek Lutheran Church and was active in its various organizations. She enjoyed babysitting, sewing, cooking, baking, playing cards with her grandchildren and bird watching, especially hummingbirds.

Viola is survived by her son, Glen (Kim) Mahlum of rural Ettrick; two grandchildren, McKenzie and Brock Mahlum and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Viola was preceded in death by five brothers, Alfred, Edvin, Victor, Ernest and Myron and a baby sister, Florence.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. in the French Creek Lutheran Church with burial in the church cemetery both in rural Ettrick. Pastor Anna Sorenson will officiate.

Visitation will be Monday, March 18, 2013 from 5-7 p.m. in the French Creek Lutheran Church in rural Ettrick and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.

Memorials may be designated to the French Creek Lutheran Church, the Christ Is Lord Church in Onalaska or the Galesville-Ettrick-Trempealeau High School music department.
