Viola L.Sosalla
Viola L. Sosalla passed away at her home, on Wednesday, October 10, 2012, her birthday, after a several-month battle with cancer. She was born in Whitehall on October 10, 1925 to Hildor and Hilda (Loken) Hanson and spent most of her childhood on a farm near Square Bluff in the township of Arcadia.
Viola graduated from Whitehall High School in 1943 and married Clarence Sosalla the following year. For the next 37 years, they owned and operated a dairy farm near Whitehall, raising and putting through college their six children. In 1981 she and Clarence retired and moved to Whitehall.
Viola was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Clifford Hanson, sister Isla Kolve, and great-granddaughter MacKayla Fernholz.
She is survived by her brother Jim (Lois), Ostrander, MN, daughters Sharon (Lee Roy) Fernholz and Marilyn (Ronald) Motszko, Arcadia, Jane Murray, Waupaca, and sons Wallace (Pamela), Whitehall, Gerald (Paula), Appleton, Mark (Betty), Fond du Lac, 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Viola was a loving wife and mother and an excellent cook. She enjoyed playing the piano which she learned to play by ear in her childhood. Viola would often entertain, playing at home as well as at various nursing homes, birthday parties, and other social gatherings in the area. She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and a member of the Tri-County Memorial Hospital and Nursing Home Auxiliary, Whitehall, St. John's PCCW and its Funeral Committee, and the Whitehall Study Club. Viola will be remembered for her wisdom, strength, love and devotion to her family and friends.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, Oct. 15, 2012 at 10:30 in St John's Catholic Church with burial in the Lincoln Cemetery both in Whitehall. Father Woodrow Pace will officiate. Lunch will be served in the parish hall.
Visitation will be at Jack Funeral Home in Whitehall on Sunday, October 14, 2012 from 4 to 8 pm with a prayer service at 7:30 pm followed by a parish rosary. Friends may also call one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
