Virgil Alan Houghtaling, age 73, of Whitehall, died on Monday, February 15, 2021 in Whitehall.

Virgil was born on March 9, 1947 in LaCrosse to Robert J. and Alice Jane Virginia (Nelsestuen) Houghtaling.  Virgil met Vanja Ahlund in California and they married on August 23, 1979 in Las Vegas, NV.  They opened an interior decorating establishment in the High Desert in California and later moved to Wisconsin in 1991 where they started a food concession business that had always been Virgil's dream.

Virgil loved to gamble so they spent many winters in Laughlin, NV.  They also loved to travel and went to Sweden a couple of times.  They also enjoyed a few cruises.

Virgil is survived by his wife, Vanja; a son, Paul; two daughters, Linnea and Ava; seven grandchildren, Chaz, Savannah, Zoe, Anja, Grayson, Amina and Brett; two sisters, Anita (Gary) Semb and Jessica Day.

In addition to his parents, Virgil was preceded in death by a brother, Robert P. Houghtaling.

Arrangements are pending with the Jack Funeral Home in Whitehall.
